So Wednesday was my last day going to the Millikan Lab for the summer. Professor whitaker will be to busy next week and his last day is next week as well so i will not be going. I got the answer to how to finish the circuit I was working on, but I never got to finish it because I was helping another student there as her assistant for working with the co2 laser in the lab and trying to find where it is inside the sphere on the table. It might sound easy but we were working on trying to find it for about 3 hours and when I left she still had not found it. But I got to learn more about what it does and how the lasers work and everything so it was a good learning experience. Hopefully I will be able to go back sometime again to work with Professor Whitaker again.

Today I went back to the Millikan Lab to work with Professor Whitaker again after about 3 weeks of not attending due to July 4th, and also because of some car troubles the week after. What Professor Whitaker is having me do is more independent than say, a normal class at school, but he does help me a lot with the things i have yet to figure out or don't know. What I did today was read about potentiometers and the formula for voltage division and finding out how to re-design a circuit that was previously built and somehow make it better. For homework over the week he asked me to hopefully finish the design and then talk with someone at the lab that can help me put it all together differently next Wednesday. I have to test out using resistors along with a potentiometer and a power source to equal to about .22 volts which the circuit I am redesigning needs to be. Should be an interesting task and looking forward to finishing it.

On Wednesday June 27th I again went to the Millikan Lab to work with Professor Whitaker. This time he showed me a circuit that was previously completed, rather poorly, by other students before. He told me i will be making it better and improving it and shortening it, and will take a couple of weeks. I had to figure out alot of the different parts in the circuits and look up what they are and what they do, and also alot about using a multimeter correctly. It was quite alot of learning for me and I still don't know much about the circuit yet or how i will possibly make it better. But I'm sure i will begin to get the hang of it eventually and will keep learning more about electronics.

On Wednesday, June 20th, I went to the Pomona Colleges for the first time in order to meet with Professor Dwight Whitaker who works at the Edward's Science building. The first thing he had me do was watch a pretty long video to learn about lasers and the hazards and dangers involved with using them and how to protect yourself and others. I didn't know much about lasers when watching it and learned about the different classes of lasers and how they can cause serious damage to a person's eye if directly focused on a certain bundle of nerves and can cause temporary to permanent blindness. Afterwards, I went down to Professor Whitaker's lab in the basement and he told me about how they are experimenting with many lasers being reflected and pointed into a very small chamber, keeping the molecules or atoms in a small cluster that was somewhere around 10,000 times colder than the room we were in. Since the laser video took up alot of time, him talking was short and i had to leave. but what i will be doing next wednesday and according to him, i would be doing for a couple of weeks, is working on a small circuit and making it better than it already is. It was a very interesting experience and i look forward to learning and doing more with the Professor.
